Hi All,

Is there any specific reason why there is no Vicidial page on Wikipedia?

Nobody ever took the time to create one I guess. Are you volunteering? :)

LOL!

I'll have to plan some time for it, but I could start one.

Just wanted to double check there was no request from the group not to have the page created for any reason.

For a start, can I have permission to copy a lot of the vicidial.org website content - or at the very least, base 90% of the core info on the vicidial.org website to ensure that the content is correct?

Regards,

Rudolf

Yes, of course. You can copy anything you like from vicidial.org to wikipedia.

Cool! I'm flying around this week. Will sandbox something on Wikipedia and then hopefully have something to go live by the end of the weekend.

EDIT: There's a slight dispute at the moment and one of the Wikipedia mods took the page down.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vicidial

It's a small start keeping very close to the manuals, vicidial.org and vicidial for dummies.

Matt, please let me know if it is okay to upload one or two images from the manuals - one for the agent interface, one for the admin interface and one live campaign stat?

Any constructive comments are welcome! I'm no writer, but hopefully this will serve as a start.

If the page content gets the Okay I'll reference and link where necessary.

Regards,

Rudolf

Wish I could have seen it before they deleted it :)

It's funny that they noted the reason for deleting it was that it was "advertising". Maybe someone should tell them that Vicidial is completely free and open source.

It's funny how people think something that's free can't be advertised. Deb (talk) 03:36, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

I gave it a try to create the article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:DomeDan/sandbox
The problem now is notability https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notability the article needs more independent third-party coverage
found these two http://www.asteriskexchange.com/listings/481 and http://www.voipusersconference.org/2009/vicidial/ but I'm not sure its enough

tried to get some info about these two awards:
"Won SourceForge.net project of the year for VOIP applications 2006"
"2nd prize for voice applications at VO.IP Germany"
from http://www.eflo.net/presentations/MattF ... ciDial.pdf
but could not find anything on sourceforge.net about this and nothing about "VO.IP Germany"
Does anyone know where I can find any info about this?

Here's the link for the 2006 sourceforge award, http://sourceforge.net/blog/cca06/
It's for the "Asterisk GUI Client" project, and if you click on it, it goes to the project web page for Vicidial

There doesn't appear to be a link anywhere for the VOI.IP Germany 2008 conference. I know there was one a few years ago, but not any more. We do have a certificate framed and hanging on the wall in our office, but I'm guessing that isn't good enough for Wikipedia.

Here's a link to our 2011 win for best in show at the IT expo East conference that year,

aaah "Asterisk GUI Client", that's why it was hard to find.

with these two it might be possible to prove it publicly popular enough

Hi DomeDan,

Are you still having issues with this article? The reference list is exhaustive and almost longer than the article. :) It looks really thorough - thanks for the effort!

I don't understand why Vici is getting so much flack, there are a lot of "soft" articles on Wikipedia that are left up.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Regards,

Rudolf

I guess others having the same issue, but I've seen a few articles which got less notability.
well well, I've updated it with references to the awards and asked a wikipedia member in the Teahouse to take a look at the article again and tell me if something needs to be changes.

Seems Deb went on a rampage.

When Vici got removed, there where maybe 3 or 4 discussions.

He/she is now on 60.

DomeDan - was there any progress? Anything I can do?

Not really sure, I stared writing it in my sandbox, requested it for creating, got a message that it should be moved to the talk section, did that and there it is now, it will be moved to the real page once its accepted.

got a message today and they still think its not notable enough even though I've added reference about the prices http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/2 ... -East-2011 and http://sourceforge.net/blog/cca06/

Not sure if it will help convince them, but there are dozens of youtube videos about Vicidial from all sorts of different authors:
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q ... q=vicidial

There is also a Linked-In group with over 400 members:
http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=8456 ... ps-b-grp-v

There is a whole chapter in the "Asterisk 1.4 - the Professional's Guide" about Vicidial:

There are always "Vicidial" projects open on Freelancer.com:

Latest message after a failed article for creation submit:
Hi there. Every one of your citations, except this one, are primary sources and unable to establish notability per Wikipedia's guidelines. We'd need multiple sources like the one I just linked, or other press coverage (not press releases or non-notable blogs). Please take a look at the pink box to learn more about notability. It might be too soon for this subject to have it's own article. Thank you!

I got references that are not very related to the authors, but they don't understand that. gonna try to make them understand

edit: wrote to the one that left the message, will keep you updated when I get a reply

Wrote about the other references but I guess the article needs to be edited in a way that it will highlight the independent notable references.
Hi. I'd suggest linking the actual citations you're referring too so I can look at them. 95% of the time Businesswire actually provides only press releases, which are not reliable secondary sources. Feel free to add the additional sources and resubmit, and someone will eventually come by and take a look at it. I generally don't review articles twice in a row, to allow for another opinion. Thanks for your contribution.

Anyone wanna give it a shot then you got a good starting point at least: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia ... n/Vicidial
What I will try next when I feel ready is to strip the article down to a few lines and just have the book as a reference
